Read- August 2021- I am honestly so sad I didn-t enjoy this book. I have loved the first three Miss Peregrine-s books for so many years now and I was genuinely excited at the prospect of the new books but this one just didn-t do it for. Personallu, I felt like Ransom Riggs had come up with a new story that he wanted to write within this world he had created but he needed a book to set it all up and from that came this book. It honestly just felt like a bridge book between the first three books and the last two books for me. So whilst I do feel like this book is just filler, I accept why it needed to be that way and I do have higher expectations for the last two books as I feel like we can finally get into the actual story Ransom Riggs wanted to tell now.I also have to add that if I was rating this book on characters alone this would 100% be a 1 star read for me because Jesus Christ, I hated all of the original characters in this book aside from Jacob. Like everyone was acting so out of character. Emma and Miss Peregrine went from being some of my favourite characters to my leats favourite.

3.5 I have quite a few thoughts. I-ll start with the pictures. It was fun in the first book, but definitely around the third one, it started to feel like it was weighing the books down. Around page 400, there was this whole ordeal with Frankie that just seems shoved in there to show off some cool pictures. While it did move the plot forward (much a credit to Riggs-s talent as a writer) the scenes themselves felt very out of tone and juvenile. I plainly did not enjoy them. Most scenes heavily pac 3.5 I have quite a few thoughts. I-ll start with the pictures. Most scenes heavily packed with pictures felt forced in some way like they were written to include them whereas in the first few books they felt like the pictures inspired the work. My second critique of the pictures is they are 100% being used to mark up the prices of these books. They-re printed on full-colour pages and everything from the page number to the scene divisors is coloured to match them. I-m very annoyed with YA books bei like collector-s items than books because then they are priced ridiculously high. This one wasn-t insane (30cad plus taxes) but less-mainstream authors- books sell for around 23. That being said, this was super fun to read. I didn-t have a lot of reading time but whoever I picked it up I flew through it. This book seems very dense when you hold it (I-ve seen longer hardbacks printed in thinner paper weighing less) and can feel very intimidating but the writing flows so well I made it through 100 pages and barely even noticed. The pacing was good, but it starts to feel looong around the 350-page mark. The expansion of the world feels natural and I-m very glad it-s not rehashing the same things we saw in the first arc of the series. I have a feeling it will get better and I-m excited to read the next one.I hope this is not going the prophecy route...

I really enjoyed this once it got going but feel it took way too long to get there, the first 100 pages are so could have been edited way down. However once the story left Florida, it was a wild ride and the ending left me very excited to read the next book.

3.5 stars rounded down.I didn-t care for the last plot twist in this. Mobsters and gangsters didn-t fit with the rest of the story line. The direction this whole story took felt off the rails and I was left believing if the ultimate ending was intended, it could have been accomplished differently. 3.5 stars rounded down.I didn-t care for the last plot twist in this. 3.75/5I wasn-t quite sure if I could read this without problems since I only remember a little about the previous trilogy but luckily it worked out quite well.I really liked the way the story went, since it dealt with the aftermath of the trilogy but also questio about the world order that the peculiars live in. The one thing that annoyed me kinda was Jacob-s behaviour in the end but otherwise this was a fun read. 3.75/5I wasn-t quite sure if I could read this without problems since I only remember a little about the previous trilogy but luckily it worked out quite well.I really liked the way the story went, since it dealt with the aftermath of the trilogy but also questio about the world order that the peculiars live in.
