I look like a normal kid. Only there's a difference. Poseidon, God of the Sea is my dad. Which sounds cool, but actually means there is usually someone (or something), somewhere, trying to kill me. Now I live at Camp Half-Blood, with other kids like me. But Camp Half-Blood is a bit different to most summer camps. Instead of toasting marshmallows and singing campfire songs, we battle giant cannibals at dodgeball.

I haven-t seen the movie version of this--after the way Tinseltown bungled the first book, I-m not sure I want to--so, I can-t compare this to the film...but, I will say that this adventure was a blast. It-s easy to see why these books have become runaway bestsellers; they-re great, fun reads that give Rowling-s world of wizards and witches--as good as it is--a run for its money. 1st RereadTyson has my WHOLE HEART!This book was honestly so funny! Tyson, Mr. D and Percy all had me laughing throughout the entire book. The hummus dialogue?! The "What-s that?!" questioning?! Peter Johnson?! This book had the comedy down.I also loved Percy-s journey with embracing Tyson after so much uncertainty, slight jealousy, prejudice, and embarrassment. It was truly beautiful to see Percy accept him at the end!And the plot twist?! Wheeeew, I know I-ve read this book before but I was sti 1st RereadTyson has my WHOLE HEART!This book was honestly so funny! Tyson, Mr. D and Percy all had me laughing throughout the entire book. 3.5 starsReading this series for the first time in your mid 20s is certainly something. Jokes aside, while I was struggling a bit with the first book of the series, probably because I was a bit too old for it, the second book really entertained me immensely. Everything about this is ridiculous and juvenile but I had so much fun and I-m almost done with the third installment as I-m writing this so hopefully I-ll manage to finish the series this year! Seriously though, I keep forgetting Percy and 3.5 starsReading this series for the first time in your mid 20s is certainly something. Seriously though, I keep forgetting Percy and the crew are all really young and it keeps throwing me off because the writing is also very juvenile at times and I-m not sure if that-s that good of a thing in the long run.

This fe like a filler, setting up things for book 3. I enjoyed the characters but the plot was no fun, it just kinda dragged on with the cyclopes and fleece thing.I-m looking forward to book 3 though! originally read: 2016, 4/5 starsreread: July 2021, 4/5 starsI always forget how much of a cliffhanger that ending is, and how I didn-t finish the series after haha. This reread felt a little longer to me than the first book, even if it took me the same amount of time. I think this one just felt like a side tangent to an overall story and that it didn-t bring much to the table aside from Tyson. I think it is still a nice story within the percy jackson universe. Percy doesn-t really evolve in this book for me, but I still loved him all the same. I think he-s a pretty fun main character, if not a bit predictable at times. He still makes the story interesting and strives to be the best he can. Annabeth is also still a great addition to the story, she has a great determination for whatever she wants to do. As well she never hesitates to pull together a solid plan and enact it in a split second. Tyson was a great addition to the story as well, I think he-s really fun and underrated in the fandom. I remember him being one of my favorite parts. The greek mythology aspect is ev fun in this one. While it less explains real-life in this book, it adds and expands on existing mythology. The retellings of greek mythology are honestly my favorite part of the percy jackson universe, and I-m really happy it spreads across each book. Riordan does this so well and I love seeing it in every book. Overall, an enjoyable reread but a bit less exciting the second time!
