Book 1 in the Wild series published 2020A 4 star read with some question marks.A new series with the potential to grow on me. The characters here are easy to become involved with, not all perfect, but hey if life was perfect it would be boring. The boy from the woods is known as Wild. He was found in the woods all alone living by his wits and his animal instincts. How long he had been in the woods no one knew, not even himself. So what starts out as a missing girl case soon becomes a mission to save the USA and the World from political turmoil. It doesn’t take much imagination to guess where Harlan Coben got his inspiration for this story. For the start of a new series this was pretty good and I’ll be interested to see where book two takes us.

A really interesting read with some very interesting character names! I really enjoyed this story, my first Harlan Coben book. The title of the book and the blurb didn’t prepare me for what happens in this story with lots of twists and turns. A missing girl is only half of the story and everything ties itself up nicely by the end of the story. Would recommend to anyone that enjoys a bit of mystery.

3.5 stars rounded to 4. I have never read anything from this author before. I saw this book on a kindle deal awhile ago and grabbed it. I liked this book except for the fact that it had too many storylines going on at one time. The title is kind of misleading because it doesn’t really focus on the boy from the woods. The book is still interesting though and held my attention.

This is okay, but I like Missing You better. The mystery isn’t really surprising and I felt disappointed, to be honest. The mystery about Wilde’s past isn’t revealed yet, but I heard that this book will be made in series so perhaps the mystery is left untold for now.

Heavy-handed? Yes. Life-changing? Absolutely not. But this is the most fun I’ve had reading a book in a long time and that has to count for something.

This is my first Harlan Coben book and I was a bit disappointed in the writing, the mundane dialogue between the characters, the rather blatant political reference in the character of the "villain" Eggers, the many winding subplots and the rather misleading title of the book. This is not about a boy from the woods, but about the adult that boy has become as a result of his mysterious, feral background and the psychological effects of not remembering who he truly is. This is not about a boy from the woods, but about the adult that boy has become as a result of his mysterious, feral background and the psychological effects of not remembering who he truly is. However, this is an interesting twisty suspense novel, particularly as relationships and motives are revealed in the second half of the book. This boy was given the name Wilde after being found 30 years ago, at the age of 6 or 8 years old, alone in the backwoods of New Jersey. Hester Crimstein, who thought her son David-s stories about playing with a boy in the woods were fantasy, became Wilde-s foster mother. Hester apparently has appeared in another of Coben-s books and she takes center stage in this one as a feisty, 70 year old celebrity lawyer and television broadcaster and in my opinion the best character in the book - except for the descriptions of her swooning and going "ga-ga" over Police Deputy Oren Carmichael - which I felt was juvenile and unrealistic. Although handsome, intelligent, and possessing unique sensibilities, Wilde never fit in even after military training and with a career as a PI, preferring to live secretly, off the grid, alone in the woods. Wilde seems to be reminiscent of the "noble savage" in literary history. He is a strange mix of the recluse and has only fleeting relationships (although a couple are deeply felt) except toward Hester and her teenage grandson, Mathew whose female abused, bullied, and outcast classmate, Naomi, goes missing. Wilde is able to locate her but the story picks up when Naomi goes missing again apparently with classmate, Crash, the son of an influential and wealthy family. Investigations begin again and some unsavory characters are involved. Coben includes themes of bullying, child abuse, loneliness, wealth discrepancies, hidden family secrets, inequalities of the justice system, police corruption, political radicalism and manipulation, and fake news. Coben has surprising twists and revelations as he wraps up the mystery but leaves many questions unanswered in anticipation of a sequel, no doubt!
